Creating a Masterpiece
A masterpiece isn't created overnight.
Michelangelo spent nearly five years on his back painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
Early Monks would often take a lifetime to create a single book.
It took the our planet 4.55 billion years to bring forth humankind.
Masterpieces take time.
So it is with a deep and powerful relationship.
While the instant attraction may be a thing of startling beauty, and certainly the romance is enjoyable, a deeply unified and emotionally fulfilling relationship takes time to emerge and become strong.
When things are not going as we would like, when we don't see the results of our efforts, when our relationship seems less than the ideal for which we hoped, it is helpful to remind ourselves that we are creating a masterpiece.
A masterpiece does not come instantaniously, nor is it simple.
A masterpiece requires time and patience and dedication.
Just like a beautiful, deeply loving relationship.

Unlike a masterpiece, a relationship is never finished. There is adjusting to early marriage, maybe new jobs, new locations, the blessing of children - there are always new events in a relationship that require adjustments.
As I just commented on another post here, my husband and I are brand new empty nesters. Our relationship has entered a new phase that takes some getting used to - not that we're complaining! We are learning (or re-learning!) to enjoy all our time together.
A masterpiece requires continual care - even when you think you have it "right" - you need to make sure to protect it so that no paint chips off, the colors don't fade and it doesn't dry out and crackle (can you tell I'm a former decorative painter? LOL)
Great post, Jennifer!
I will be working on my masterpiece until the day I leave this earth!!
Excellent Post Jen!

Hi Romain...
You are so right! A great relationship truly is a life time experience. :-)
Hi Sunflower... I so appreciate your insights and words of wisdom. You have a lovely way of sharing your thoughts. Sometimes, just when we think we have something down, we enter into a new phase of life and, well, we get to learn a whole bunch of new stuff! LOL! The transitions are not always easy but they certainly help us create the masterpiece! Blessings sweetie, jen
