We don't often think about our environment when we discuss intimacy.
Not the world environment but the environment of our home... our surroundings.
What we do know is that our surroundings impact our emotions and affect our relationships.
If we are living in a messy, dirty, cluttered environment, our energy is being drained. If our surroundings are peaceful, organized, warm, and inviting, we are more apt to feel positive about life and our loved ones.
For centuries, and throughout the world, wise thinkers have provided an understanding of how our environments impact our experience of life. When we feel safe and comfortable, we are more loving, caring, and our relationships improve.
This doesn't mean that someone who is not organized is not going to feel intimate, or that those who are obsessed with cleanliness will be better companions; it means that we often reflect the energy in our homes. It means that we bring into our relationships feelings of tension and negativity, or feelings of peace and pleasure.
The more we can create an environment that promotes feelings of harmony, care, and love, the more healthy our relationships will be.
What can you do to create a loving environment?
We are sensory creatures; we respond to what our senses bring into our minds. Notice what helps you feel more loving and positive.
What smells calm you? Pumpkin and vanilla are the most common smells that bring a sense of comfort. What inspires you?
What type of lighting helps you feel peaceful? Candles? Soft glow? Sunlight? Firelight?
Do you feel more comfortable in a home free of all clutter? Does a clean home feel fresh and inviting?
What sorts of visual effects elicit positive emotions? Pictures of loved ones? A warm blanket? A fire in the fireplace?
Take some time to notice how you are effected by your environment. Make the changes that will bring you a sense of peace, care, and comfort.
You will feel better when your environment reflects warmth and care.... and your relationships will improve.
