Balance, Harmony, Yin/Yang

The idea of Yin/Yang is not about men and woman as is sometimes understood in the West... Yin/Yang is about balance and harmony, and is the very essence of our universe.

Finding balance and harmony in a relationship is essential for a healthy partnership.

I'm a strong believer in a relationship providing a place for the fullness of both a man and a woman to come forth. The wonder and fullness of a relationship can only come to fruition as both partners express their unique essence.

In relationship, intimacy comes when both partners are comfortable in sharing who they are, how they feel, what they think. The more the essence of each partner comes forth, the deeper the relationship.

To comprehend the balance of Yin/Yang, it is essential to understand its essence.

One of the most beautiful descriptions I have read concerning Yin/Yang is found in, "Twin Souls," by Patricia Joudry and Maurie D. Pressman....

"Yang is the initiating impulse, which divides and delineates; yin is the responsive impulse, which nurtures and reunites. Without yang nothing would come into being; without yin all that comes into being would die. yang is mental activity in its forceful aspect, yin the imaginative and poetic, exalting the merely mental to the beautiful. yang goes ahead with things, yin contains things within herself and knows their nature without effort. yang does, yin is. Yang in his givingness bestows the gifts; yin in her being receives, preserves, enhances, and redistributes them. Yang is as the day, turning into night, and yin the night preceding the day; the one is the force that drives the waves of the ocean forward, the other the force that draws them back so that they may go forward again."

These are the principles that rule the universe. They are the principles the bring the fullness of relationship into existence.

To have an intimate and loving relationship we need to give the fullness of ourselves and accept the fullness of another.
